Step into Spring with GCAT’s Guided Walking Tours for Doors Open Guelph 2025!

On April 26, 2025, join one of GCAT’s guided walking tours designed to enhance your Doors Open Guelph experience! Our tours offer a fantastic way to visit many of the Doors Open Locations where you can appreciate some of Guelph’s architectural, historical, and cultural landmarks. Spots are limited, so register early!

GCAT’s walking tours will run rain or shine (excluding dangerous weather), so lace up your comfortable shoes, dress for changing spring weather conditions, and come prepared to enjoy Guelph on foot! There’s truly no better way to experience the beauty of these locations than by strolling along with us on the scenic routes. Connecting you to community, local culture, and Guelph’s unique charm every step of the way.

Two tour options available:

Tour #1 – Art & Heritage Tour

Meet: 9:45 AM at Guelph Youth Music Centre parking lot (75 Cardigan St.)
Depart: 10:00 AM (Approx. 2 km between locations)

Highlights:

  • Guelph Youth Music Centre: Explore Canada’s pioneering youth arts education hub.
  • Goldie Mill Ruins & Norwich Bridge: Journey through Guelph’s industrial past at the historic ruins, then cross a mixture of new and picturesque heritage pedestrian bridge.
  • Islamic Society of Guelph: Enjoy a welcoming and enriching experience as you visit this vibrant community hub. To respect cultural practices, visitors will be asked to remove shoes and wear a head covering. If you’re unable to participate or prefer not to meet these requirements, you’re warmly invited to relax nearby while the tour continues inside.
  • Trans Canada Trail Street Art & Art Not Shame: Encounter vibrant street art on the way to a welcoming creative space.
  • Wellington County Administration Centre & Law Library: Visit the historic grounds of Guelph’s courthouse and former jail.

Tour #2 – Scenic Social Stroll

Meet: 1:15 PM at Market Square (near skating/splash pad changing rooms)
Depart: 1:30 PM (Approx. 2.6 km between locations)

Highlights:

  • 10C Shared Space: Discover Guelph’s hub for community-driven innovation. Where GCAT holds a good portion of our meetings!
  • Guelph Armoury: Explore the historic home of the 11th Field Regiment.
  • Scenic Route: Stroll safely along the trails until we get to the pedestrian crossing over Wellington near Holiday Street.
  • Junction Village Community Land Trust: Feel inspired by community spirit in this shared green space.

Please Note: Distances indicated reflect one-way routes only. Maps provided are for guidance purposes and may be adjusted due to factors such as accessibility, construction, or timing constraints. Shorter return routes via main roads are available, and volunteers will gladly provide recommendations. Some volunteers may also be available to accompany you on the return journey upon their availability. GCAT’s walking tours will proceed rain or shine, except in cases of hazardous weather conditions
