June 17th, 2023 will be the 10th annual Love Your Bike event at St. Andrew’s Church at 161 Norfolk Street.  Every year, St. Andrew’s congregants Wilfred Ferwerda and Rick McRonald have sat down with the Guelph Coalition for Active Transportation (GCAT) member Mike Darmon to plan a day that celebrates bikes and biking as part of City of Guelph Bike Month celebrated each June.

The day kicks off at 9:00 with coffee and treats provided by St. Andrew’s and Two Rivers Church while local bike mechanics from Paramount Sports, Speed River Bicycle and Flow State Bike Co. volunteer to make last-minute adjustments to participants’ bikes.

As cyclists come together, a highlight is the “Wrench Off” where local politicians compete to change a bike tire (note that Mayor Cam Guthrie will be defending his title this year against MP Lloyd Longfield and MPP Mike Schreiner!).

Following a “blessing of the bikes,” bagpipes serenade bicyclists as more experienced bikers head out on a 20 km bike ride to Guelph Lake led by Guelph Off Road Bicycling Association (GORBA).

Individuals and families can choose to do the “Easy Rider Parade” around Exhibition Park featuring “story time” for kids provided by Guelph Public Library.

The rides lead to an early BBQ lunch hosted by The Wooly Pub and sponsored by Steam Whistle Brewing with activities for kids.
