Advocacy and Campaigns

GCAT works to ensure that walking, cycling, and rolling are safe, convenient, and accessible for everyone in Guelph. Through ongoing advocacy with City Council, municipal staff, and community partners, we champion infrastructure improvements and policy changes that benefit active transportation.

Current Priorities

Safe School Zones
We advocate for traffic calming measures, improved crosswalks, and dedicated cycling infrastructure near schools to make active travel safer for students and families.

Connected Trail Networks
GCAT supports initiatives to connect Guelph’s trail systems, including underpasses and bridges that allow cyclists and pedestrians to cross major roads safely.

Winter Maintenance
We work with the City to improve winter maintenance on cycling routes, ensuring that active transportation remains viable year-round.

Equitable Access
We advocate for cycling and walking infrastructure that serves all neighbourhoods, with particular attention to areas that have historically been underserved.

Past Achievements

GCAT has contributed to significant improvements in Guelph’s active transportation network, including:

  • The Woodlawn Road multi-use path (completed 2018)
  • Advocacy for the Hanlon Creek underpass
  • Support for the G2G Rail Trail connection
  • Ongoing partnership with BikeMaps.org to identify infrastructure gaps
