What happens when two Guelph locals trade in their day jobs for a year of bikepacking across the world?
Adam Zgraja and his wife, Madeline Carter, did just that; and now they’re back to share their stories.
In January 2024, the couple set off on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure: a year-long cycling tour across the Asia-Pacific. From the sweeping coastlines of New Zealand and Tasmania, to the bustling cities and quiet countryside of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, and even a final stop in Spain. They covered over 12,000 km by bike, sleeping somewhere new almost every night.
Adam and Madeline are active volunteers in the Guelph Tool Library and Freehub Community Bike Center, and long-time GCAT members. Their trip was powered by pedal strokes, community connections, and a passion for slow, meaningful travel.
Now, they’re inviting the GCAT community (and friends!) to join them for an afternoon of storytelling, stunning photos, food and drinks at Fixed Gear Canteen. Whether you’re a seasoned cycle tourist, dreaming up your first bike trip, or just want to hear some incredible travel stories – this event is for you.
No registration required — just show up and bring a friend!
We hope to see you there. 🚲
