We had a tough budget season this year with the Mayor’s proposed budget cutting out winter maintenance for bike lanes in addition to other cuts to active transportation investments. Six councillors voted to put bike lane winter maintenance back into the City’s 2026 Budget last Wednesday – one vote short to pass.
I want to personally thank everyone who wrote in, who called their councillors, and who delegated. And thank you to the six councillors – Caton, Goller, Klassen, Allt, Caron, and Downer – who voted for putting bike lane winter maintenance back into the city’s 2026 budget.
Though this result was disappointing, all of us at GCAT will continue to work to make active transportation safer and more widely accessible for everyone.
